Free Recital Hall @ BOP

Boston Organ & Piano is proud to solve many piano teacher’s biggest problem…..where to hold their recitals. Free of charge, BOP makes Signature Hall, a 70 seat performance hall available to ANY teacher for their recitals. The room features a stage, stage lighting AND a magnificent, new, grand piano. It may be a Yamaha, Seiler, Pramberger, or a $100,000 Bosendorfer. The instrument is tuned just before the recital. Students playing their third time at Signature Hall are invited to “sign the wall” in a ceremony after the recital. Their signature joins the likes of Klaus Schimmel of the Schimmel Piano Company, Paulo Fazioli of the Fazioli Piano Company, Joey Kramer of Aerosmith, and 2012 Grammy Nominee Linda Chorney. 2012 Grammy Nominee In Concert @ BOP

2012 Grammy Nominee, Linda Chorney, will perform at Boston Organ & Piano Sunday, April 22, @ 7 pm. Ms. Chorney, a personal friend of BOP President, Ray Totaro, will be in town to perform the National Anthem @ Fenway Park for Saturday’s Red Sox/Yankees game.

Tickets are only $10 and are on a first come, first served basis. You can order them by phone at 508/655-1550.

Pianos Lessons

I wish I had a dollar for every adult who has told me “I wish I hadn’t quit taking piano lessons”. A close second is “I wish my parents had not let me quit taking piano lessons”. In more than 40 years in the piano business, I’ve only met one person who claims to be glad they quit piano lessons. My point?

People who play the piano are glad they can. People who can’t play the piano wish they could. Here’s the problem, kids need their parents to see the benefit and provide the opportunity.

There is plenty of science that has proven the benefit to kids of taking piano lessons. Kids who play the piano score an average of 40 points higher on Achievement Tests than kids who don’t play. Kids who play piano can raise their IQ as many as 15 points.

That’s some of the science, but get this. You show me a child who has played a 30 - 45 second piece in a piano recital, I’ll show you a child who is better giving an oral presentation in the 7th grade. Piano lessons are an opportunity to learn about budgeting time. They also do not provide instant, dramatic, results. Kids learn they have to work to achieve.

Mighty Wurlitzer Organ Home in Worcester Theater

I had the great pleasure of hearing the Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ at Worcester’s Hanover Theater. What a treat! The restored theater is truly magnificent. It is a jewel in the city of Worcester. The Mighty Wurlitzer organ is worthy of the venue. Rising from the orchestra pit, this magnificent organ is the result of years of work by many who donated their time and treasure. The organ boasts parts from 19 other pipe organs. It is worth the effort to get to the theater alone. But that’s not necessary. National and international acts are booked along with local talent. Worcester, congratulations. You have a state of the art theater AND a world classic organ!

A View From the Bench

Hi Everyone,

My father, brother and I believe the relationship between our customers and our company does not end when someone purchases an instrument or a service. Instead, it is at the time of purchase that our relationship begins. Think about it. What other products require the visit of a company representative at least twice a year when there is nothing wrong like a piano requires a piano tuner’s visit? And what about lessons? We see some of our customers once a week!

Still, there are some whom we don’t see as often as we would like too. For those, we have begun a weekly journal which my brother, John, has named “A View From the Bench”. The journal will describe what is happening at Boston Organ & Piano and also significant events and achievements in the lives of our staff and our customers/friends.

I hope you’ll read “A View From the Bench”. I would also be grateful if you would submit your thoughts, ideas, significant achievements, etc. It would be wonderful to include your suggestions, comments and achievements in the column.

Remember, sometimes it’s better to be on the bench!
